The Makeup Show NYC 2013 Survival Guide

The Makeup Show Mobile App

This year The Makeup Show NYC (taking place May 5th and 6th) will feature over 85 beauty brands, 9 keynote speakers, 20 seminars, and 14 hands-on workshops.  With so much going on, the number one way to make the most of The Make Up Show is to plan ahead.

Game of Thrones

Research their exhibitor list and educational events ahead of time and make a list of your must sees.  The Makeup Show NYC made this easy for us with the launch of a new mobile app with floor plans and a list of all of their keynotes and seminars.  Highlight your faves so that you don’t miss a beat.  You can find the app by searching for “Showcased International” in the iPhone App Store or Google Play store and contact for a personalized login name and password.

Are you old school? Is your iPhone battery as reliable as the NYC MTA? In war you always need a plan B.  Print out the floor plans in this post and plot your plan of attack.

I’ve mentioned this before but the Inglot and Make Up For Ever booths are always insane!  If these brands are on your hit list I would highly suggest getting to the show early and making them your first stops.

Next Level

Take advantage of being at an event full of your peers.  The Makeup Show is a great place to network so don’t leave home without bringing your business cards.

Also bring along your Comp Card, tear sheet(s) with your name, call sheet or union card.  There will be plenty of brands that will be signing people up for their PRO discount programs and you will need proof (some may ask for more than one) to go along with your application.

If you are looking for input on your portfolio this is a great opportunity to get feedback from professionals.

Extra Fuel

This is more of a rant than actual advice but the caterers at The Makeup Show NYC think they are running a concession stand at Madison Square Garden or the Barclays Center with their pricing.  I don’t remember how much they charged but it was ridiculous for those bread sticks they were passing off as sandwiches. Have a good breakfast, bring snacks and something to keep you hydrated throughout the day.  An extra dollar spent on food is one less dollar for building your makeup kit. P.S. I still buy my food from their catering but just saying lol.
